Hi guys, im having problems configuring the above controller, it loads correctly
i have installed adaptec storage manager, i login but it doesn't see any drives, the controller lead has 4 connections to it and i have the drive on connection 1, the pc has also got 2 ssd and a sata drive plugged into the sata connections on pc , this is where my operating system is, i want the sas drive as backup, i have ordered 3 more sas drives with an external enclosure, to see if that works any better, can i run the pc off the sata drives and use the sas as backup, but i don't know where im going wrong, as soon as the adaptec loads , i go into the utility and try and set an array up, but it wont show or innialise the drive ???

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Overall, unless there are specific requirements for RAID (of any sort) RAID is not necessary.

It gains little and makes things much more cumbersome and complex.

And RAID is not a backup solution.

Search through the Storage Forum for posts and comments regarding RAID.

thanks for response, i thought you needed raid to add sas drives, i even changed my raid card due to last card not having the right connectors after advice on here, ive got 3 sas coming with enclosure, just don't understand why it wont recognize my drive, it all seams to be working, when i initially open hardrive management it see,s the raid, but wont let me initialize it, then it vanishes, is cos im trying with one derive and not more, is there any other specs you need for advice ???
