My current motherboard (Asus P877-V) has an absolutely excellent WiFi card, and I'm spoiled. But I'm building a new system on a board that doesn't come with a wireless adapter.

My past experience with USB adapters has been universally and horrifyingly negative. I have an expensive 2-year-old Linksys USB adapter somewhere, and it's worth less to me than the box it came in. So I think I want to avoid USB. But most importantly I want one that doesn't require me to use the manufacturer's software - I want its driver to be 'invisible' and play well with Windows 7's networking.

Range isn't terribly important (I'm 12 feet from the router - just need wireless because of walls and doors). Stability of the connection is important for gaming. I couldn't care less about ease of installation since this is going in a new desktop build; I'd actually prefer an inside-the-case solution. PCI-E x1 and PCI are both available.

Anyone have any suggestions?
