[SOLVED] Add 2x4 GB or 2x8 GB to 2x4 G Skill Rip Jaws 3200 SSD4?

When I created the system, I read in several places that 8GB was "totally adequate."
Now it seems 16 GB is significantly better, 32 GB slightly better still. (on a chart by Linus Tech, Render Times =
  1. 8:13 for 8 GB,
  2. 3:33 for 16
  3. 3:10 for 32
  4. 3:02 for 64
I currently have G.Skills Ripjaws 2x4GB DDR4 3200 = 8GB. Should I:
  • Add G.Skills Ripjaws 2x4GB DDR4 3200 = 16GB total? $43 at NewEgg - OR
  • Add G.Skills Ripjaws 2x8GB DDR4 3200 = 24GB total? $67 - OR
  • Add G.Skills Ripjaws 2x16GB DDR4 3200 = 40GB total? $90
  • Is 24 (or 40) GB OK?
The MB is a Gigabyte Z270XP-SLI. - 4 SSD4 slots

The timings. $120 is Cas16, the $200 is Cas14. The timings can be important especially for Ryzen because the Cas 14 are Samsung B-die, the Cas16 usually aren't, and Sammy B's have the best compatability and usually better OC ability.
With Intels that doesn't really matter as much.

Cas is how many clock cycles it takes to get the data ready to ship to the cpu. Lower Cas doesn't take as long, it moves the data faster. Speed is how fast the clock cycle. So higher speeds = shorter cycles, lower Cas = less cycles. 14 short cycles is faster than 16 short cycles, but 14 long cycles is slower than 16 short cycles sometimes.

Of course all this is in nano seconds, so the differences are minute on a serious scale, but considering how fast a...

2x16Gb. If the existing 8Gb turns out to be compatible, by all means use it, but if not, just sell it.

Just make sure to match Cas and voltage, or it'll run at whatever is looser timings and whatever is higher voltage. If it runs.

Where are you getting 32Gb of 3200 ram from for $90? It's usually closer to $190

My $90 must have been a mistake. BUT, New Egg offers 3 versions of RAM for
G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory:
  • Model F4-3200C16D-32GVR = $120
  • Model F4-3200C15D-32GVR = $165
  • Model F4-3200C14D-32GVR = $200
What's the difference.?

Of course all this is in nano seconds, so the differences are minute on a serious scale, but considering how fast a cpu works its gotta have the data now, not 5 nanoseconds later.

Basically 3200/16 is mainstream, 3200/14 is high performance, so unless you have a high performance pc, and not a decent average pc, then 3200/14 is going to not be worth it.
