I want to add an SD card reader to my 7040 SFF. I bought the bezel that has the front facing slot for the card reader, and I also found the card reader module 094D86 on Ebay. All is well, except that I can't find a place to connect the card reader module onto the motherboard. What am I missing? The only thing I see on the motherboard in the vicinity is a 20-pin USB 3 port, but the card reader module connector is completely different (see pictures). The 7040 manual doesn't seem to have any information on how to connect this.

You should be able to find the connector labelled 18 in this diagram;
Dell_OptiPlex_7040_SFF_motherboard.jpg

and use this guide(SD Card reader removal) in reverse. If the port doesn't exist on your motherboard, then your SKU didn't come with it and wasn't meant to have an SD Card reader on it.
The case is a small form factor and does not have a 3.5" bay. So I guess @Lutfij is correct regarding the SKU. What I find strange is why would Dell manufacture two different motherboards just because some SKUs come with SD card and some won't. Seems like a waste to me.

Is there some sort of an adapter that can be attached to the card reader's cable which would enable me to plug it in to the blue header #18 on the motherboard? Also, what is that connector on the card reader called?
