Good grief how I hate this annoying nonsense.
Why can't they just display the price on the page with item?
Does anyone think this tatic actually entices people to buy something?

the purpose of these ads is not solely to entice people to buy the product but to show the actual reduction from the regular price and other random promotion the retailer may have running. It is intended to ease bargain hunters minds. some people won't buy until they have some sort of endicator that they are getting the best deal out there.. a good deal just won't do.
