Hey guys my pcs been running great but with the size of games and mods these days I've purchased myself another 500gb HDD to free space on my SSD which windows is installed on.

My pc as it is has
Gigabyte XA 990 UD3
AMD FX 8350
8gb (2x4gb) Ballistix tactical ram
Sapphire Radeon GHz Edition 7970
Corsair 600M 80+ (I think it's M)
180GB Intel SSD (Windows 10)
1TB Seagate HDD
500 GB Seagate HDD

Everything works great but when I install an extra Seagate 500 GB windows gets stuck on the black screen with the blue window and spinning dots below.

All hard drives show in BIOS. And doesn't work in safe mode either.

I have gparted on a USB which when I boot up recognises every hard drive and let me format the new drive but it still gets stuck on the same windows loading screen.

Currently BIOS is set to IDE and I get inaccessible boot device when I change it to AHCI.

Solution
Do not unplug or plug anything in while the computer is in the on state. You'll risk damaging your components. If you can't test this hard drive in another computer, I would suggest taking the good hard drive out of the computer (after backing up all of your data), then see if you can install windows onto the suspected defective hard drive and see how it behaves. That or an even easier way would be to purchase a hard drive dock for further analysis.
Hi there, Chriski420.

Try the drive with different SATA cables and a different port, to see if the same thing happens. You should also give it a go with a different computer if possible. If you manage to boot to Windows with the drive being recognized, I'd recommend that you download its manufacturer's diagnostic tool and run the tests, to see if anything alarming pops-up.

Also, here's how to properly switch from IDE mode to AHCI (although this should not be the cause for your current issue).

Hope that helps. Please let me know how it goes.

I had the same thing a week ago when my friend bought a new HDD and had it sent to me while he was at work. I formatted the drive in gparted but same issue wouldn't boot but worked fine in his pc, same with this one so the drive is good and formatted

Your bios is probably just trying to boot to the spare hard drive, you recently installed. Switch the boot priority in the bios to specify the drive that has windows installed.
