Hi

So I currently have a G.skill 2x4GB 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM Sticks running dual mode, and I could get really cheap 2x2GB set which is the exact same model, same speed, same timing but just the size is different. Would I have any problem running them at dual mode with my existing RAM?

Thanks in advance

Solution
It might work, it might not. Even buying the same make and model 2x4gb is not guaranteed to work without problems. RAM should be bought in a single matched kit. I have 2 lots of 2x4gb Corsair Vengeance with the exact same model number, trying to use them in a single pc causes stability problems so yes I have first hand experience that there can be issues

Why would you do this? It's a bad idea. Mixing 2 different densities of RAM will limit the way the memory banks can be accessed. Buy 2 x 8GB DDR3 and you will have a much better setup overall and would also be able to run at 1T Command Rate.
