Adding 8gb with 4gb ram

Hello. I have a 3-4 yrs old system with decent specs. The thing is i want to make a new one in 10 months. But untill than i want to add 8gb ram ddr3 because i wanna play Forza Horizon 4 and it's laggy and crashes, even if i have a gtx 1050 ti 4gb.
Is it ok if i add 8gb to a system with 4gb? I only have 2 ram slots. Would the game run with 12gb?

It's not recommended because you're not supposed to mix and match sets of RAM for comparability reasons.

Forza Horizon 4 requires 8GB RAM so 12GB will be more than enough --- however, to take advantage of the improved performance you get with dual channel operation, both sticks of RAM need to be the same capacity --- ideally a matched pair to avoid possible compatibility issues between the two sticks.
