adding a older graphics card

So i know this is probably a stupid question, but i have an sli cable and was wondering if i add a old 8800gtx to my computer and sli it in phsyX mode with my 560 ti. Will it help process the graphics with 560 ti settings?

Mobo: asus m2n-e
ram:8Gb Patriot ddr2
psu: 430wat no tags on it not sure make or model.
installed gpu: geforce 560 ti
wanting to add for more rendering power: 8800gtx

i have a bit mining setup i was going to install a second psu with the gpu, but my problem was that i have read in several different forums, you can sli several different gpu's as long as they are all same brands. However you are right they said that if they wern't say "(2) geforce gtx 560 ti's" They wouldn't sli and work together, But with two different bit mining forums they said i could sli them together and set the 8800 gtx as assts gpu for "PreProcessing" Data to the 560 ti. my question was would that work or are they full of ****. i also need help with this to if anyone knows anything or anyone that might http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3543003/cpu-clock-speed-jumping.html

BARE IN MIND I was told to set the 8800 for PhysX

With the speed of your system, you will use up more electricity running a power hungry and slower card like an 8800 than you would actually gaining anything from e-currency mining. You can't just use SLI based on the brand of cards, what you probably read is that using the same video card model of the same brand is best, not just the brand. Using a card just for PhysX processing is not "SLI", it's just using a second card in the system.

thank you that makes much more since than, Add your second gpu, connect your sli cable, right click your desktop, and set 8800gtx as PhsX. I figured that adding a slower and lower quality gpu would take a **** on my system. However i think i figured out what they were all talking about. I asked about making my one computer run basically like two computers and i completely forgot about that. So i think i got lost in reading there thread and nixed matched information THANK YOU SO MUCH. Final question though because i'm already liking this forum better you guys give detailed explanations. how would i set my computer to basically run as two?

Not sure what you mean by one computer running as two, need details about what you are trying to do.

Sorry mobo died for a moment, My brother and i set-up a gaming computer about 2 years ago now. Before we even assembled it he had the idea of making it a dual gaming pc. So he went out to the computer store and got all the things he need. He had me help him assemble the pc because he mainly deals in code and crap like that. However after i helped him put the computer together he plugged two monitors into the system and after 4 hr's of installing ALL not one missing update or driver. He spent another hr setting up the two monitors after he was done he plugged another mouse and keyboard in, called me over opened up halo 2 on his monitor then told me to the same on mine. We we're able two play together on games, He could be doing research on one monitor and i could be do something else on the other. What has me confused is the computer monitors even booted as two separate computers.
I asked him HOW DO I DO THIS????????? and he said he can't explain it he would have to show me thing is he is now in japan for 6 years. He did however send me what he is now running in his computer.
MOBO - ASUS RAMPAGE V EXTREME/U3.1 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Motherboards - Intel
PSU - CORSAIR HX1200 CP-9020140-NA 1200W
CPU - Intel Core i7-6850K 15M Broadwell-E 6-Core 3.6 GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W
GPU - "(2)" ASUS ROG GeForce GTX 1070 STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING 8GB 256-Bit GDDR5
CPU_HEAT-SINK - CORSAIR Hydro Series H105 Extreme Performance 240mm Liquid CPU Cooler
GPU_coolant - He couldn't find the box for them so he doesn't remember
RAM - G.SKILL TridentZ Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200
He just rebuilt his beast last month, He said it's what keeps him and his buddy's distracted well there stationed down in japan doing practically nothing in there off time.
Any idea how you would do this I'm about to get new 1070 gpu's and alround just upgrade my pc NOT as drastically as my Brother though "I think He may have gone A little OVER Kill on this upgrade".

You can install a virtual PC on the system and you will have two different environments, but using dual keyboards and mice in the system at the same time is tricky, you would need to only enable specific ports on the specific OS or they will cause conflicts.

I think if you are running two virtual machines on one computer, then you could configure a separate keyboard/mouse and monitor for each virtual machine. In effect, you are creating terminals(or thin clients) that both log in to the same mainframe host(in this case a PC). The downside is that hardware resources are shared, so each virtual machine can only use the resources it's allowed to use. Both of you can't use all 6 cores at the same time, each of you is probably assigned 3 cores.

As far as the physics card goes, I've seen lots of testing of this. The bottomline is that there's no point to using a slower 'extra' card as a Physx card. The only notable gains I ever saw were when a very fast newer card was used for the Physx job, and no one wastes a good card doing that. Look at it this way, most people into computers have old Nvidia cards laying around, if there was a physics use for them we'd all be doing it...but we're not. What does that tell you?
