Adding a second drive without RAID

I have a Dell Precision T3600 Workstation from work. It has a PCI RIAD controller that is plugged into 1 HDD with a cable labeled "0".

I've been given the O.K. to add an SSD as a second drive(no cloning or anything).

Can I bypass the RAID controller when installing the SSD and just use the SATA 3 port on the motherboard?

Thanks

Just to be clear on it, just because a drive is plugged into a raid controller, doesn't mean that the raid controller will automatically take over the drive and automatically assign it to the raid array. All the raid controller does is add functionality to the sata interfaces.

I have a PCI card which I use for older boards to add SATA ports, it -also- has raid built into it, but unless I specifically enter into the utility on boot up to add the drive to a raid array, it just passes through as a normal SATA drive.
