Ideally want my OS on the SSD and a game of the demand of skyrim/ark/r6siege..along those lines?

EaseUS do a good cloning tool.
Acronis are another I have used.

Clean installs tend to be smoother and less problematic, but obviously calls for software reinstalls. But those are 2 good cloning tools, and it will migrate all your current data and files.

Any SATA or PCIe SSD will be compatible. Obviously depending on if you have a PCIe slot available.

Also depends on what size SSD you want.

Best ones nowadays tend to be Samsung EVOs, SanDisk ultras, or various Kingston models. So what size are you looking for?

If your motherboard has an M.2 slot (I think it does), I would suggest getting an SSD in the M.2 format. That means no power or data cables needed. Makes for a cleaner build.
You can get M.2 SSDs in either SATA or PCIe (NVME). The NVME drives are faster, but also more expensive.

My recommendations (not considering budget):
- Samsung 850 Evo (size variant)
- SanDisk Ultra (size variant)
- SK HYNIX is a more budget friendly 500GB
- Toshiba Q300

Sure; just read the specifications for your motherboard, or even the marketing info about it on the MSI website. It will specify if it has an M.2 slot. Most of the popular brands of SSDs now also come in the M.2 format. You could even download the user manual from the MSI site.

However as rchris says, if you have M2 - I'd use it:

Good M2 SSDs include the Samsung 850 or 960 M2 (again), and a Plextor Mare offering decent newer M2s also.
