Adding additional 4GB to 8GB RAM Corsair Vengeance

Hey guys, I'm currently running 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1866MHz DDR3 CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9. I would like to add another 4GB. What would you guys suggest? I was thinking of just another 4GB Corsair Vengeance, but all I could find is 1600Mhz as 1x piece. LINK Would that work? Plus to note, I'm overclocking.

Link the motherboard.

If you have a triple channel motherboard then adding another dim of 4gb should be ok even at 1600mhz. If your motherboard is dual channel then you have to add 2x2gb sticks.

Its dual channel - you have to add 2 sticks of ram.

Ideally they should be the exact ram you have right now (make and model) but i've gotten away with mixing ram in the past. It depends on your luck. If you do decide to get 1600 ram then your older 1866 ram should be set at 1600 aswell.

Ah I see, thanks! I'd rather not risk then and not really wanting to lower my older ram freq. Besides, I would need a low profile RAM's. Would you maybe be able to suggest me the best match, to my current rams that are just low profiles? Thanks

You're sure? The number given in the first post is for high profile ram.

It's btw not per se necessary to get 2x4gb,1x4 would (well could,they need to play together) work but could end up making all the ram work in single channel or one module would work in single channel and the other two in dualchannel.

And another update,

It could be that with four modules the memory controller won't get things to work over 1600mhz.Try 1866,but if it doesn't work try to add a little voltyage to the MC and/or ram and if still not working try to lower the frequency.Maybe with a lower frequency you can lower the latency's as well,it can be tried.

Ahh I see, thank you for explanation, I'll deff. test this and see how it goes. Regarding 1x Single and 2x Dual channel, what would that mean for real performance? Would it take over single channel or?

Added a little bit info to the last post.

[strike]The low profile option is maybe also to be found in black where you live[/strike].Well looked at corsair and it seems that red and blue are the only compatible options for that speed in low profile.

Well in the end is dualchannel quicker than single channel,if you can afford it try that.In real world apps will it probably not make that much difference.Don't know why you want to add the xtra ram.With programs that use a lot of ram would adding 2x4 make much more sence anyway.

Thank you! So getting 1866Mhz to avoid that issues makes sense. I have just found the exact same model as you posted in my local store 😀

The thing is, I'm usually running 6-8 programs that heavily eats ram per time, and it comes to 7.6 even 7.8 usage which unables me to run any other, while I have to in order to do what I do. And yeah exactly! Another 2x4 as you suggest would make it 16GB which would be just perfect!

Regarding those latencies though,
9 - 10 - 9 - 27

It doesn't fit my old ram, will that be an issue?

From what i saw at Corsair are the latency's the same so you should be fine.The only worry is whether they will work together anyway,but that you can only test for,they should but not always want to.

Mixing sets of RAM is not something that we recommend even if they have the same spec or even the same SKU. But with a bit of luck, any combination is possible, as long that it is within the correct spec.
