[SOLVED] Adding ram to my 4GB onboard ram?

My laptop: Asus x540LA and it has 4GB on-board memory
My question is will adding a 4gb ram stick add up to the on-board ram to get 8gb or do I need an 8GB stick?
Also can somebody please recommend a suitable ram stick?

You only have one memory slot so you would need to replace the 4GB stick with a 8GB stick.

If you buy it from Crucial they guarantee it to work.

If it has an empty slot, then probably yes. You could also add an 8gb module for a total of 12gb, but it would probably not run in dual channel mode then.

You're welcome! And don't hesitate to try an 8gb module because unless it is somehow bios limited, it will probably work just fine as long as your cpu and chipset can take it.
