Adding ram to new laptop, do i buy a set of 2 or can i add 1?

hey i just bought a new gaming laptop that has 2 ram slots. there is 1 8gb stick in there and you can expand to 32gb. i want to expand to 16gb. its DDR4 SDRAM SO DIMM 260pin. can i add a 8gb stick or do i have to buy a set of two 8gb sticks?

its a msi GP73 17.3" Full HD. cant find the make of the ram stick to get another one of the same make

You just have to add 1 8gb stick. It's best to make sure it's the same type/speed/brand as the one that is it in there now to make sure everything runs properly.
The ram stick in there should have a label on it with a part #.

i havent gotten the laptop yet. its in shipping atm. any idea where to find the part number? i cant find it anywhere

You are probably better off waiting until you receive the laptop and open it up yourself. It's most likely going to be DDR4-2400... specific make/model though I don't know.
