So where I work my boss wants to add a second phone to a service desk area, and we have a multi-line phone (4 lines) there already.

The line that is being used is an Ethernet cable (the phone has Ethernet inputs), and I was wanting to add the second phone to the same area, but I don't think there is a second line output so I am curious if there was a way that I could use a switch/splitter on the line that was there and hook up another multi-line phone to the one wire.

The goal is to have two phones at the desk, and that both phones will use the same 4 lines for incoming calls.

Can this be done easily with a splitter or switch, or do I need to have someone come out and install a second actual wire from the box?

It sounds like you have an IP based phone system. Most likely it is using POE to power the phone. If that is the case you need a special switch, one that has POE built in. I would call your computer guy and have him install another phone.
