Additional PS4 Storage? Without changing HDD?

Basically I've been browsing the net for some time now on a solution to the minimal 500GB that the standard PlayStation 4 provides.

I know there's buying the 1TB HDD and then restoring the data but even after that you need to download all the games again and its just going to take an age, plus the whole backing up to the external and then restoring!

Is there a way of adding additoonal storage, maybe somehow an external drive or literally anything I can do which 120% works to get more storage, if replacing the drive is my only option then I'll just start it and let it be.

Unknown. There's no defined date for public release. After the update, you should be able to use an USB 3.0 external drive.
It will be used as a second drive for storage.
There are detailed notes on the beta version:

When is the beta released? I have signed up for it just now but is it too late? I did see that there's an update coming though which is brilliant, can I literally just plug in a 1TB External and just use it as my internal?
