ADM vs Intel Build

Hello, so im building a gaming rig and decided to go amd because of the cheaper price. So my question is if i have an amd mother board and prcessor do i need an amd video card? How is it cheaper, exactly? You pay $220 for a CPU that is worse than i3 at gaming.
