Hi,

I am using my laptop given by my company. In the past i had administrator authorization and could do anything i want with it. I bought an external USB harddisk and stored my personal files in it.

Last week, admin authorizations were removed from all company personnel by the IT department.

Now i have this problem with my personal external USD harddisk. I can still add new files to the disk and i can delete them if i want. But i cannot delete the files which i stored in the disk before my administrator authorization was removed.

Here is the error i get:
"You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from Administrators to make changes to this file."

I tried everything i can. Tried to change owner of the file, but cannot do it because i don't have admin auth. I tried to change the file's security settings, but cannot do it because i don't have admin auth. I tried rebooting in safe mode, still can't do it.

Can anyone have any clue about what i can do to fix it?

Thanks

You are going to need to take ownership of the folders the files are stored in. IT should be able to help you do it (to follow company protocols) or you can try to do from another system where you have admin access. What version of Windows are you using?

Hi,
I am using Windows 7 Enteprise, 64bit.
I know i will need to take the laptop and the external disk to IT department and they can fix the ownership and authorization issues. I was wondering if anything possible without visiting them.
Thanks
