Heavily spoiled, but still stupid player here, this time trying a lawful
male human archaeologist. I just hit mines at level 11 with 117 HP, Bag
of Holding, ring of conflict, no wishes so far, thinking this will be a
nice easy run for gems and luckstones ... cast light ... see this nice
purple capital L. Ok, no biggie, probably just a chamaeleon, or similar,
I'll just wait till it polymorphs into something else, and let conflict
handle the rest. Maybe I'll help my fellow G's out with that wand of
striking over there ...

The invisible Master Lich gets angry
New lesson learned: ALWAYS check for hostility before zapping stuff at
peaceful folks, however improbable. I got my [CoDisplacement and blessed
+3 high boots disintegrated, and lots of stuff cursed(blindfold, ring
of conflict, luckily no my BoH), reading ?oTeleport to get back to the
stairs. Tried my cursed one first, didn't work. Read the others. Purple
L teleports next to me. Get last resort stuff (un-id'd scrolls, potions)
out of my BoH. Down to 7 HP. Pray. Up to 117 HP. Read un-id'd scroll:
Gold detection. L casts a spell. Read something else: What do you want
to genocide?. Pause.
Read blessed scroll of remove curse. Conflicts decimates the summoned
beasts. Save. Get something to eat, and reflect on my stupidity.
Actually, I now gather what must have happened. I went down the stairs,
some peaceful h stepped into a poly trap, and stayed peaceful. Must
remember to go down again when I get a pet, but for now I will now go
back up the stairs and restock my armor.
Surprised I got out of this alive. RNG showing mercy? Of course, I just
delayed the inevitable, but I hope I'll make it past the castle someday.
