yo,
im living in an area that has no internet, but recently there is an ADSL2+ exchange that has been made and Telstra is saying i can have ADSL2+ or ADSL1. The issue with this is that the exchange is 5kms away.
What ping would i get playing csgo with this? and would there be a difference if i went with either ADSL1 or ADSL2+?
cheers

Solution
5km away is not going to affect the ping times. The signal travels at some fixed percentage of the speed of light though copper cables. It is a very tiny number.

The problem with distance is going to be the speed/bandwidth you get. Lucky for you games need very little bandwidth. The generally need less than 1mbps but this is both up and down rates. For most systems that is not a issue but DSL especially when you are at the limits you may not get that speed. Many years ago you used to get rates 768 down and 384 up. That likely will be too slow for most modern games. It will likely work for most games if you can get 768k upload rates.

You have to be extremely careful when you have a slow connection to not do anything...

You have to be extremely careful when you have a slow connection to not do anything else so the game can have all the bandwidth. Some of the large 20gbyte+ games are golng to take huge amounts of time to download.

It is all going to depend on how fast a connection the ISP can give you. If you can say get 10mbps down and 1mbps up it will be ok. In general adsl2+ will be faster but the actual rates you get all depend on the distance the the quality of the wire coming to your house.

Some people that come here and complain because their ISP is not delivering the full 1gbit need to live where you are happy to get any internet connection you can.
