Does any one know if there are ADSL modems which can connect directly to the telephone point and transmit signals to PCs and Laptops wirelessly?

As I understand it, you must have at least one PC connected directly to the modem and a ethernet cable from that PC is linked to the wireless router for other PCs and laptops to get signals. I am looking for something which does not rely on any PCs except to reconfigure it for the first time for security keys.

My idea is to keep the connection on 27/7/365 but ALL PCs and laptops can be switched on as and when needed.

I am sure I must be missing something here so your help would be appreciated.

Under my scenario, one needs at least two equipments to achieve the objective - One adsl modem and second a router.

Depending on whether it's compatible with your ISP:

Most Access Points only support 4 PCs each... so you may need a couple extra
depending on how many PCs you're thinking of running. Or at least an
Extender device to boost the signal.

John,

Yes all you need is the ADSL modem, Router/Switch, and and Access Point.
With this configuration the Router
can be used to sign on to your ISP without any PC's turned on.

I have a Zoom X5 ADSL Modem/Router with an Access Point. Zoom has just come
out with a newer ADSL
Modem called the Zoom X6 which is a ADSL Modem/Router/Access Point all in
one box.

This might be what your looking for.

The ADSL modem would not directly give you a "wireless" connection. Most
wireless manufacturers, who also make ADSL modems, would include a wireless
router portion.
