Advantages of same brand motherboard and video card?

I am currently ordering parts for my first build. Over the weekend I picked up this motherboard:

MSI P67A-GD65

I now am looking for the best video card I can get for under $200 (after rebates). My question is: Is there any advantage to buying an MSI video card to match my MSI mobo?

1. Better compatibility?
2. Easier to overclock both mobo and video card using the OC Genie? (I've never overclocked so excuse the dumb question if it doesn't make sense.)

Also, it seems like in this price range my main choices are Radeon HD 6870 or GeForce GTX 560. Preferences?

i used to have a setup with both MSI main board and GPU and they didn't offer anything special

not that i know of.. they will probably look the same though - same colors etc - which is always aesthetically pleasing

Well... if both the motherboard and the video card fails at the same time, then it is likely you will mail both to the same address for your warranty service.

That's the only advantage I can think of.

My Asus board and two GPU's match very nicely together as well.



No advantage performance wise.

Well, no advantage to having same brand MB and vid card, however, MSI happens to make some awesome vid cards. I have a gigabyte mobo, and went with 2 MSI vid cards because of their quality. Would say at the $200 price cap range, this is your best bet.......

maybe if your obsessive compulsive and everything you have must match in some way, then yes, get all MSI components.

i used to have an MSI GPU and it was the only GPU i had where the fan did not fail on me
