Hi, I just created an account for this to see if there's a fix. A few years ago, I bought the laptop mentioned in the title (win 7 machine) and about a year back from now, the screen stopped working properly, however, it was rather peculiar, as the display would occasionally flicker off for a few seconds. Despite this, nothing was done about it. Gradually, it started to become more frequent, and the display would be blank for longer periods of time. It is definitely not the backlight, as there is nothing there when shining a torch on it. I bought a new laptop last year as the problem kept getting worse, and it is planned for the old laptop to be used headlessly as a server, or for playing films through a tv. My dad suspects that the problem is actually the motherboard, but the VGA and HDMI work fine, so I'm not quite sure.

I am willing to provide any extra required details.

Thanks in advance.

Solution
A working screen on a laptop requires (apart from the obvious power/signal cable from the motherboard) a backlight and an inverter board which is a small PCB (printed circuit board). I suspect the inverter board needs replacing if there is no image to be seen at all using a torch.

Not to sound condescending, but you did power up the laptop before shining the torch at the screen, and you did shine the torch at it for at least 15 seconds in case the laptop was still in the process of booting up?
