Annoyingly I have stumbled across the 660 point version of Adventure. MLA
version 10.6 26 Jul 95. While proudly showing my son what fun text based
games can be I ended up playing it all night remembering the fond days of
PDP11 and Data General Novas.
However, I need help of all things. In the original version , there was food
in the building. The 550 point version had it in a pantry. This one doesn't
seem to have it anywhere. I've tried the hints and the ftp archive but to no
avail. Anyone has a clue/ hint please?

I don't know the answer, but you might try asking Mike Arnautov:
his email address is on his Adventure page
http://www.mipmip.dsl.pipex.com/downloads.shtml

There's his new 770 point version there too, should you triumph
over the 660 point version. :)

Are you sure? In the 550 point version which I have (MLA, 04 Jan
2002), the food is in the building. Of course, I'm not saying that
other versions of the game don't have the food in a pantry ...

Maybe you've looked in the right place - a room where you logically
might expect to find food (see above).

But it's empty at the start of the game. Continue your adventure for
a while, then go back.

The pantry is found in the 500-point version of Adventure, as well as it's
decendants the 501 and 551-point versions.

But then, you already knew that didn't you David?

No. Doesn't seem to be there. Of course, maybe I don't need it. Not all
bears are hungry all the time. I'' try something else. 660 and 770 is
getting to fill my life just like the original did. I wasn't married in
those days though.

The adrventure ones are! The food is in the most logical place
imaginable -- in the pantry. That's where Luckett and Pike put it in
Adv440 (the location being new in that version), and I liked the
change, so it got adopted in Adv660.

Well, there's that. 🙂 But I suggest you forget about the 660 and
have a go at the 770 -- the 660 is fully embedded in it.

Good luck!

Mike Arnautov.

I suspect that you may have been thinking of the 551-point game (see
below).

I think there is a danger of some confusion between versions.

The 551-point game has a pantry in an obvious place - inside the
building.

In contrast, the 440-point version and its later derivatives (660 and
770 points) have a pantry inside the cave. I think both the
660-point and 770-point games start with the pantry empty, but it's
restocked after a few turns.

I suspect that one feature has been missed out of the reconstructed
Fortran 77 version of the 440-point game. Mike Arnautov said that
the 440-point game had food in the pantry - but the Fortran 77 version
has it in the building.
