Hi Forum,

I need advice on a computer build. First let me tell you what I will be using my build for. I will do a little gaming (Division, Batman, Need for Speed) but I rarely play on the PC as I have a PS4.. although the graphics are no where near a dedicated GPU card, I still play mostly on PS4. So you can say around 10% gaming on the PC. I will also listen to music, watch movies, make documents and do a little programming from time to time. I also forgot to mention that I would like to turn my desktop in a HTPC (Home Theater PC).
My budget is around $2000 dollars. I am aware that with $2000 dollars I can get a great i7 processor and the likes, but I don't want to go crazy, I want to build my build smartly. So what would you guys recommend me ? The build I created is down below.

Yup it is... but I was wondering what components would be needed to turn a computer into a HTPC (Home Theater PC) ?

First of all, you can save a lot by going for an i3 - i5, if you are planning to use the system the way you've mentioned here, as those processors will serve your purpose just fine.

However, with that budget of your, I see why wouldn't anybody want to have an i7 processor. So if it is going to be an i7 build plus save some money, I would stay stick to the i7 6700 - it's cheaper than 6700k and comes with a stock cooler, so you do not have to spend extra for buying a CPU cooler.

Moreover, get a hard drive of atleast 1Tb in addition to that SSD.

32GB of RAM?? Thats an overkill. You can save on it as well.

THanks for the info.... what would your recommendation be if I would like to turn that PC build into a HTPC (Home Theater PC) ?

Plug it into a TV.

Seriously, though, anything beyond that is personal preference. If you would like to to run XBMC or PLEX then install that software. If you want it to fit in a small space, buy a mini ITX case and motherboard, and maybe the mini version of your video card. I'm not sure if there's a mini 1080, but there are mini 1070's, such as https://jet.com/product/Gigabyte-Technology-GV-N1070IXOC-8GD-Gigabyte-Ultra-Durable-VGA-GV-N1070IXOC-8GD/bca07473bf61472dbedcc53d2bae03cc Some mini ITX cases can fit full size video cards.

I use this with my HTPC: https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Multimedia-Remote-Keyboard-N5901/dp/B0036VO67I

I wouldn't get the 840 pro. You can get a 750gb Crucial MX300, for less. I do not see any need for Win 10 pro either. Home should be plenty. $200 motherboards are unnecessary also, unless you are looking for really high overclocks. 32gb really isn't needed either. I like the new Cryorig coolers because they include a fan that keeps air flowing onto your socket area, to help keep VRM's cool.

I think I'd keep it as high powered with your budget but drop things a couple of notched, to 6600K, Asus Z170_a mobo, GTX 1070, 16GB of DRAM in 2x8GB - all of which will more than suffice, keep you happy for a few years and be there if you want o OC and make it a heavy duty gaming rig

You are welcome. As far as HTPCs are concerned, all I know is that, they should be compact, efficient, run cool & silent. Thus what we are looking at are: processors with lower TDPs (i3 6100 finally gets a chance to beat its more powerful siblings 😀) micro/mini ATX cases and Mobos which are easy on the eye, blends with the interior. But then again, these are very much personal preferences than necessities.

Apart from that generic stuff, I am very sorry to say that I do not possess the knowledge in the field of HTPCs to provide you a better solution.🙁

IT's all good :) I will buy the i5 for future proof reference.... as Tradesman1 pointed out.... if I decide later on to transform it into a gaming rig then i5 just to be on the safe side and a mobo where i can clock the locked cpu. :)
