Advice for a Trial player...

Hi, I'm planning to do the 14 day trial of SWG in a couple of weeks. I'm
asking for advice on how to best utilise that time period to learn and enjoy
the game.

I'm playing from Australia and would like to know what the best servers
(read: least lag) would be. I'm on cable. I'm interested in healing,
politics and a bit of gunplay. I have a friend who will be doing the trial
with me so anything we can do together would be good.

I've been reading up on the game at Station.com and have been keeping an eye
on this group, and I'm really eager to have a go of this.Depending on how I
find the game, I'll be buying it, but my lack of a credit card is the only
real sticking point.

Thanx in advance.

Valcyn is fairly good. The prices are not too high on that server. Lag
is low. I prefer starting in Theed (or anywhere on Naboo, for that matter.)

Roll your character. Don't try a crafter for a two-week trial. You can't
do much in two-weeks as a crafter. I'd recommend a combat profession
instead.

Use your CDEF weapon to advance a few boxes in pistol (or whatever) and
get someone to train you up. Go to the newby areas near/around cities to
shoot easy stuff and get XP fast. If you have the beginning cash, buy
a really cheap but better CDEF off the bazaar. If you want rifles, look
for a DLTa.

To get trained, go to where people are gathered (especially the main
starports) and ask for it. Someone will teach.

Once you have a couple boxes, go run some missions. (You could have run
missions right away, but those first two boxes of XP are easy and
greatly reduce frustration when running missions.)

Now buy a better weapon with that cash.

Rinse and repeat.

A top-of-the-line crafted CDEF rifle (~62 max dam, 3.3 spd) is
actually roughly comparable to a stock (non-crafted) DLT20 in
damage-dealing. The DLT20 does twice the max damage and a bit more
than twice the average damage (higher minimum) but the CDEF is more
than twice as fast with lower HAM costs.

That said, it will be easier to find a DLT20 than a great CDEF rifle.
I used to keep a DLT20a for smaller game just to save wear-and-tear on
my Laser Rifle.

Not a problem, really: get a game card. The same stores that sell the game
usually (at least around here) stock game cards. The card gives you 60 days
of play, no credit card needed.

One thing worth mentioning:

A lot of new players confuse slow load times, slow refreshes and bogged down
play in large cities as lag. This game is a resource hog - most importantly
a memory hog. It really only plays well with a Gig of RAM. 512MB of RAM is
OK but you'll notice a remarkable difference with more memory.

Looks like the recent bout of patches has finished (I hope). The last 2
nights there has been no new files to download after patch time.
