Hello and welcome!

You could definitely benefit from a platform upgrade. That means new CPU/RAM/Mobo.

You have a DDR3 system. Not that RAM speed makes all the difference, but CPUs have come a long way in throughput speed, and you can gain a lot of performance from a newer CPU on a DDR4 or DDR5 platform.

You will find some good DDR4 setups. However, you might consider DDR5 since you have to buy new RAM anyway. DDR5 is a bit more expensive than DDR4. So, it will depend on your budget and preference.

1.) Intel 600 and 700 series motherboards allow for Intel 12th, 13th, and 14th-gen CPUs and the motherboards come in either DDR4 or DDR5 options. Of course Intel will make this platform obsolete probably next year.

2.) AMD's AM4 platform is already obsolete and uses DDR4. Some very affordable options here though. Typically not quite as fast as Intel, but still good performance. You will find the flagship AM4 gaming CPU, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D to fall just below the Ryzen 5 7600X in gaming performance.

3.) AMD's AM5 platform is currently leading in gaming performance and strictly uses DDR5.

Do you have a budget?

What kinds of games do you play?
Some games are graphics limited like fast action shooters.
Others are cpu core speed limited like strategy, sims, and mmo.
Multiplayer tends to like many threads.

With extra threads, a I7-4790K used is probably only worthwhile if you play multiplayer games with many participants.

What is the make/model of your power supply?
A graphics upgrade may well need a stronger psu.
