I currently have a rather outdated gaming PC with a Zotac Geforce GTX 960 graphics card, an Intel i5-4590, 16 GB RAM, and SSD and HDD, along with a crappy Monitor. I'm not much of an expert, and i'm open to advice for upgrades to GPU, CPU and Monitor. Nothing too pricey nor too budget. Thank you.

I was wanting to fit a GTX 1070 Ti or GTX 1080 in your budget but I'd have to go cheaper on the other parts, which I didn't want to do. I just got a 1440p G-SYNC monitor similar to the Dell below and it's amazing. That's a Dell 1440p G-Sync monitor is why it's so expensive.

You might not be able to hit 144fps in all games with your i5-4590, but the G-SYNC should take care of that and keep things pretty smooth.

Video Card: EVGA - GeForce GTX 1070 8GB SC GAMING ACX 3.0 Black Edition Video Card ($369.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: SeaSonic - FOCUS Gold 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($63.00 @ Amazon)
Monitor:...
Well, your CPU can handle a GTX 1060 or even a GTX 1070 for the most part. Some CPU intensive games would benefit from a CPU upgrade to an i7 also.

It really depends on your budget, but a GPU would be the most effective upgrade.

What kind of monitor do you have? Is it 1080p 60Hz?

At the moment I have an LG TV type. 1080p 60hz precisely. I'm looking for smoother game-play and better overall display quality. I don't really know the price range of these products but i'd say my budget is around 800 - 900$
