Question Advice for X99 Deluxe , 5820k - - - move single GPU to slot X16_2 ?

Hey,

I have an X99 Deluxe motherboard with a 5820k processor. I am thinking of moving my single RTX 3080 GPU from slot X16_1 (which is recommended) to X16_2.

Is that going to work out and run the GPU as expected at PCI x16 rather than x8? I have a massive heatsink unfortunately and it's not doing me any favours as it blocks the air cooling of the RTX 3080 (which is massive unfortunately).

Any advice/help would be appreciated.

I wouldnt. The manual indicates a reduction of bandwidth to x8 on 28 lanes cpus significantly reducing bandwidth......

Run before and after benchmarks and see what the results are.

It is not clear from the manual to be honest. It only suggests that it runs x16_2 as x8 only when using SLI. I think I might have to do a benchmark to verify as @Bob.B suggested even if I wish it were obvious from the manuals.

Most x99 boards don't operate at x16 on the second slot with that processor.

I would also do that just to see.
