Hi guys

I have some experience in building a PC but I haven't followed the tech lately so I don't know what's good/worth buying so looking for some help in putting together a new build.

Approximate Purchase Date: mid December or end of December.

Budget Range: €1200 (~1300 USD).

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Work (programming, memory and processing heavy) and gaming.

Are you buying a monitor: No.

Parts to Upgrade: CPU (and cooler, air preferably), motherboard, RAM, PSU, GPU and case.

Do you need to buy OS: No (not included in the budget).

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Amazon Italy

Location: Italy.

Parts Preferences: Intel for CPU and Nvidia for GPU.

Overclocking: Yes.

SLI or Crossfire: No.

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080.

Additional Comments: I would prefer if the case had glass side panels and was RGB (for esthetics and to go with the RAM I picked).

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: my motherboard (LGA1155) died a few days ago and since it was a 2012 build, I'm looking to put together a new build instead of trying to save an old build.

This build is going to have to last me nearly a decade so I would like for it to have more rather than less, if that makes sense.

List of parts I've already decided on (though open to ideas):

Not sure how you plan to go with those items you chose on your budget. This is what I would do with that budget.

Not sure how you plan to go with those items you chose on your budget. This is what I would do with that budget.

You're right, I got a little too ambitious about the components I could pick but that'll lead me to compromise too much on other parts.

Upon further reading, I've made my mind up on some other components (a little less ambitious) and although the budget goes a bit high, I don't mind since I need it to last a little more than short-term.

What are the possible bottlenecks?

I'm missing a case (preferably RGB) with good air-flow that'll keep the CPU and GPU cool when overclocked. Any suggestions?

If you're willing to go over your original budget, this is probably the best you're going to get.

Seeing that you ranked workloads higher than gaming, you absolutely need to go ryzen over intel & getting a ryzen 7 3700x will make an 8700k look like a joke, not to mention it's cheaper & upgradable in the future, 8700k is a dead end & you can never upgrade it without changing the motherboard.

I recommend getting performance over RGB aesthetics.
This build is performance focused and of high quality.
This will give you a good 80-90% performance boost over GTX1660Ti setup. Which is extremely huge performance gain for same budget.

Work (programming, memory and processing heavy) and gaming
You will need a more powerful CPU with all the threads you can get for that kind of workload and a motherboard to run fast RAM...
