Hello Tom's Hardware Community!

I'm putting together a new gaming build and would really appreciate some guidance from the experts here to make sure it’s rock-solid and future-proofed. Here’s what I have planned so far:

---

1.CPU
I'm planning to use the upcoming Ryzen 9800X3D as my CPU, primarily because of its performance for gaming.

---

2. GPU
The goal is to eventually upgrade to the RTX 5090 on launch, but for now, I’ll be using my current RTX 3080. I want to ensure the system can handle the 5090 easily when I make the switch, both in terms of power and compatibility.

---

3. Motherboard: X670E or X870E?
I’m a bit undecided on the motherboard:

- Should I go with the X670 or the newer X870E?
- I’m willing to spend extra if there’s a clear advantage, but if it’s overkill, I'd rather save where I can.

---

4. Storage: 2TB SSD
I’m looking for a fast, 2TB SSD that can keep up with high-end gaming and general performance. Any suggestions on specific models? I’m open to PCIe 4.0 or even PCIe 5.0 if the speed improvements are worth it.

---

5. RAM
What RAM speed and capacity would you recommend for the 9800X3D? I want to maximize performance, so any advice on specific speeds and brands would be helpful!

---

6. Cooling
I’m leaning towards an air cooler for the CPU if it’s up to the task, but I’m open to recommendations. Any suggestions for air coolers that could keep the 9800X3D cool, especially while gaming at high settings?

---

7. Monitor
I’ll be gaming on a new OLED 240Hz monitor, so I’m aiming for a build that can support high frame rates and great visuals without compromise.

---

8. Case
I really like the Fractal Design cases, especially the North XL. If anyone has experience with Fractal Design or similar cases that offer good airflow and cable management for high-end setups, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

---

Thanks in advance for the help! Looking forward to any insights and recommendations.

2| Until that card's NDA is lifted/released to the reviewers/released to the masses, we can't say what the card will draw, all you can do is overprovision/speculate on what it's power draw might be.

6| You should go for a 360mm AIO.

8| You don't need to the XL unless you intend to fill it up to the brim with a very long GPU or over-radding courtesy of custom watercooling.

Out of everything you've mentioned in your thread's body, you forgot to mention where you're located, what your budget for your build is in order for us to feasibly gauge options for your parts in your quest to build a high end gaming system. No point in us suggesting X component/part when you don't have access to it.
