Hello All

Would LOVE some advice on how to optimize our home network. 3 Floors that need wifi and we have 3 devices to use - Just need to know the best way to configure.

Typical house 3 boys, lots of devices, streaming, gaming etc.

Device 1 – Modem - Xfinity Arris TG1682G
cable modem wifi router with 4 ethernet out
fast internet here 190+
Modem is in the basement and then Cat5 connections through the house to the 2 routers through a gb switch

Device 2 – Linksys E4200 - Dual-Band N Router
Device 3 - Linksys WRT1900 ACS Gigabit WiFi Wireless Router

Questions:
Same wifi name throughout the house?
wifi 2.4 and wifi 5 -- dedicated or combined?
Linksys routers in Bridged Mode? Any tricks? Things to set/keep in mind?
What else to think about / do / configure

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOU TIME AND HELP

Since you are using different manufactures devices, start SIMPLE. Give each device unique SSID for 2.4 and 5Ghz. That way you can see how each device spreads out. You want to manually select the channels. 1, 6, 11 for the three 2.4Ghz devices. They should all be unique channels. On 5Ghz, stick with 40Mhz channel width to start. Manually pick channels something like 36, 42, 151 -- something like that. If you can dial DOWN the power on the 2.4Ghz radio. That way when you do merge to a single SSID on 2.4 and 5Ghz devices will pick 5Ghz. You may NOT be able to merge the SSID names. Many IOT devices have connection issues when you do this.
After you get things stable for a few days with the SIMPLE configuration, then try setting the SSID/password on 2.4Ghz the same. See how that works. If that works well, then see if you can merge the SSID on the two bands.

Thanks so much for the great info
  1. I set up the routers in bridged mode, right?
  2. After things are stable - same channel for all ? same names/combined 2.4 and 5 wifi networks? or keep them separate
  3. Any guidance of which IOT things do and don't have issues (iphones, firestick, roku, smart tv's, xbox)

Arris 2.4 and 5
E4200 2.4 and 5
1900 2.4 and 5

then . . .

Network (all)
or
Network 2.4 and 5

Thanks!!!!!!

No. Different channel for each. Specific setup on each router is different. Minimum thing is to disable, DHCP on each of the AP devices.
