Advice needed

Question for everyone


I currently have a P4 2.8Ghz(800 FSB)Northwood CPU.

I can sell it to a friend who wants it then add $80 out of pocket and get the P4 3.2Ghz(800FSB)Prescott CPU.

Should I get the CPU or keep what I have?

If your looking for more performance, I would recommend OC your 2.8, it should reach 3.2.

The 3.2 Prescotts run really hot, probably not worth the extra hassle to dissipate the heat just for the meagre performance improvement.

I totally agree with <b>sparky853</b>. Overclock your 2.8GHz to 3.2GHz (or more). Anyway, the performance difference between the 2.8 and the 3.2 is not worth the upgrade.

From P4C 2.8GHz to P4E 3.2GHz will gives you about 10% more power overall.

I would keep the Northwood because Prescotts are slower per clock, so I imagine your 2.8C would equal a 3.0 or 3.2 Prescott in most areas. And they are much hotter than your current proc, might have to get a new heatsink. And like the others said you could overclock and probably easily hit 3.2ghz , and alot of people can get it higher than that

Thanks for the great advice !! I will keep my 2.8 and try to over clock it after researching proper overclocking procedures and settings. Overclocking is something I have never done.
