Advice on a budget system.

Hi guys,

I'm building a system for my 8 year old son, he is amazed by my current build, and always asks to play on it, so I decided to get him his own, first PC.

Now, I want to keep things as cheap as possible, but also not to build a stuttershit machine.

He will be playing Minecraft, Terraria, Roblox and so on, also I want to get him involved with coding a little bit, so as you can see, he doesn't need a beast.

Here's some parts I want to buy, this will be an AMD machine, I'm not quite familiar with AMD, it's been always Intel for me, but that processor doesn't look half bad...

CPU: AMD FX 8350

MoBo: MSI 970

RAM: G.Skill 2x4GB

PSU: EVGA 700W

And I want to throw in my GTX780 into it (that's where 700W PSU comes from), as I will be upgrading my own GPU soon.
On top of that some 120GB SSD for OS, 1TB HDD for storage and games, case and monitor...

So what do you think guys, will that do for an 8 year old?

You'll be giving him a older system with no upgrade path which will probably be fine however for the same price (or even a bit cheaper) you could go Skylake i3, B150 MB & DDR4 memory.

PSU you chose is pretty low quality, this Seasonic is much better and is plenty of power for the build as well if you wanted to upgrade the CPU.

Use these parts as it offers a upgrade option and has way better single core performance that games like Mine craft and other titles you listed use . The FX series is awful

I based my CPU choice on PassMark score, the FX8350 has 8,939 points, against 5,341 points of i3 6100.

Edit:
Now that you said that, I looked into the scores and i3 has actually better score in single threading...
I think I will reconsider my choices.

RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series F4-2133C15D-8GVR 8 GB
Case - Thermaltake Versa H15 M-ATX

Plus SSD, HDD, my old GTX780 and monitor of my choice. What do you think guys?
