Advice on A Gaming Build

Hello everyone!

I am in the process of building a a computer to handle most games well and to do some number crunching (Excel, Matlab, R Statistics).

I created a build online at pcpartpicker (epic website) which is below.

Before that though, here are some things to keep in mind:

1. I want to keep things under 1,700 dollars (not including peripherals and other accessories).

2. I have thought about getting the AMD FX 9590 8 core, but from reading it seems that 8 cores is a bit of an exaggeration. The reason I flirted with the idea of the AMD was because of the 8 cores essentially. I figured that number crunching with 8 cores is better than 4 especially when Excel and Matlab can take advantage of them. Am I wrong?

3. Is the I7 4770k overkill for my build and needs?

4. I definitely want to have PCIe flash storage for my boot up based on what I've read so far (faster bootup, etc). Is this correct or again overkill? Also, is there a significant difference in boot up and read times that are actually noticeable?

5. I chose the GEForce 760. I flirted with the 780, but it seems base on price/performance ratio and my needs that 780 is overkill.

6. So clarification on my video gaming needs: I don't play too many games: Civilization 5, Skyrim. However, when my brothers come to visit they do play Assassins Creed, Halo, Crysis and a few other fairly intensive video games. I am a bit of a movie buff and figure the video card will more than support the graphics need for a Samsung plasma tv or IPS monitor screen. Can I get confirmation on this?

7. I was reading that RAM with 1600 is all you need in a build unless the 1600 creates a bottleneck. Will it in this build?

8. I am very big on reliability. Generally speaking, are the parts I picked well built or have there been issues in the past with these name brands?

9. Also, can I get same performance based on what I've said above in regards to my computer usage with a cheaper build?

Help me optimize this build! Thanks all!
