Advice on a Gaming Monitor?

Hey everyone, so I'm building a new gaming PC (have the rest of the hardware essentially picked out) and just need a monitor. Now I know absolutely NOTHING about monitors. Right now I'm on a Acer AL2216Wbd Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor with HDCP support and it absolutely SUCKS. Only goes up to 1650x1080, no hdmi port...its just bad.

I'm looking for a monitor preferrably 24 inches, with 2ms response time, and has an hdmi port. I have no clue how contrast ratio or any of that works, so I hope you guys can point me in the right direction

Also have some coolers and what not, but didn't think that would affect monitor choice 😛

I really appreciate the help! Also any advice you can give me on my specs before I hit the "purchase" button would be nice

Hmm thanks, looks good (and great price) but has a 5ms response time, don't think that's good for gaming.

Also I see for Contrast Ratio it says "ASCR 20000:1 (1000:1)"

What does that mean? I'm assuming it means something like native 1000:1 and software emulates 20000:1 or something...is that bad? I mean 1000:1 seems very low.

The Asus monitor you found seems excellent. ASCR 20000:1 essentially means that in comparison to say, a 1000:1, the screen brightness will be able to change 20x more.

I have it's "sister" the Asus VK246H. The only difference is the VK has a built-in webcam. I bought it to basically monitor some processes on my HTPC, but it turns out to be a pretty good gaming monitor. See my long and detailed review from Dec. 2008 / Jan. 2009. I explain a lot of things like your contrast ratio question...

I've seen lots of comments of many different monitors, and the one that wins the match is this one:

As you can see, the monitor has a nice look, and its features are great for the price, is a perfect monitor for gaming and is only 1 inch below your desired size, I don't think that would make a difference.

I don't own this monitor right now, but a friend of mine does... and it's just great, style look awesome, quality is amazing, led buttons on the front are very cool, and besides that, the monitor is super thin. In fact, I'm planning of buying 2 of these monitors for Christmas, and make then dual, cause I really really like it, besides, look at the price, is unbelievable, a 23" monitor with those characteristics for less than $200?.

If you're not sure about this monitor, do some research, and read some reviews on newegg.com too (it has 5 stars with 192 reviews!):
