Hey.

So the ASUS DSL-AC68U has been out now for around 5 months in the UK, and research shows that the modem side of things is riddled with problems, specifically the Vdsl. There have been quite a lot of firmware updates from Asus and I was wondering if this unit is now mature enough to be a reliable soloution to be used as a modem router combo.

At the moment I'm on a Dsl 10mb connection, and not too far from my exchange (around 1.6km) actual is around 3.2km I believe, but very soon have an option to move to fibre in a few months, so I'm very interested in this device as an all in one soloution.

Has anyone been using this router with recent firmware on dsl or vdsl with decent reliability?

Thanks

I recommend NOT getting an all-in-one solution, for the exact reason you mention. Changing internet providers. If your input switches from DSL to ethernet your router is not useful. Get the ASUS router, but get a discrete modem. Then the input to the router is ethernet. You can use that with anything.

Thank you for your response. I will not be changing Isp's, just changing from dsl to fibre but staying with the same Isp. The ASUS DSL-AC68U will be good for my current situation and when I change to Fibre it will still remain suitable, so no messing about when my Isp switches to Vdsl. One thing I'm not sure on is the Ports on the back of the ASUS DSL-AC68U. There is one for the dsl port and 4 ethernet ports. Does Vdsl still use the dsl port or will it use one of the 4 ethernet ports resulting in only 3 remaining for other devices? In this case it seems the ASUS RT-AC68U will be a better soloution and its also cheaper not to mention suitable for third party firmware.
