I am wanting to build a new pc and moving from the previous generation core i7 (bloomingfiled) I was thinking of getting the next gen i7 (sandybridge). I was wondering is their something beyond sandybridge in the next few months? Should I wait or just get the current one? I read something that intel was late in releasing a new cpu, is this the next generation after sandybridge or is it just a revised sandybridge? All the help is appreciated

the upgrade from bloomfield to sandy bridge isnt really worth it

skip a generation. ivy bridge is supposed to be realeased sometime this year and that will be a lot better upgrade.

make sure you get a board that supports pci-e 3 if you must upgrade now

right now i have intel core i7 930 @2.80 GHz

Really depends on what you are doing. Unless you do professional stuff, a cpu upgrade really would not yeild much of any noticeable effects.

If you don't already, an ssd and a OS reinstall would make things run much faster than upgrading just the cpu.

Ivybridge is in the next 3 months so you should wait for that at least but with a bloomingfield, I would seriously just wait till haswell in a year or so.

Makes sense, the reason why i was asking because i wanted to build a new pc with a newer intel processor. But if the haswell is better than ivybridge then maybe i should wait.
