I'm currently looking to upgrade my gpu. I currently have a AMD 6850 and its been a great little card but its starting to feel its age. I'm looking at a R9 380 or an R9 290 but I'm not sure its worth it to spend the money when my cpu is getting so old. What do you guys think? Are those two too much for my setup... should i be looking at something smaller? I'm open to suggestions other than those two cards. Do you think that its even worth it to make a gpu upgrade?

Thanks
Mark

My current setup

AMD P2 955 @ 3.8
Samsung SSD
12 GB RAM
AMD 6850
600 Watt PSU

Currently playing battlefront... 6850 doesnt even make the min specs lol

That's because it is the same GPU, it's had a couple of tweaks to improve it's power consumption by a bit but it's still the same old GPU
I have a special place in my heart for the Phenom 2. It did wonderful things for me for many years. However I think it may be time to say goodbye. Right now is a pretty good time to upgrade since Haswell and DDR3 won't be around much longer, and Skylake + DDR4 isn't likely to drop in price. Can you afford to do a full rebuild?

I can afford a rebuild... I just don't want to quite yet. I was hoping to get one last gpu upgrade to last me another couple years. I'm just unsure of how much the cpu is going to hold it back. I was hoping someone with a P2 would tell me how much gpu it could handle. I don't mind not playing at 1080p on med settings. I was just looking at used 7950s online... can be had for around $120 and it appears to be the same gpu as the R9 380?
