Advice on monitor upgrade-27inch or 3D

I'm considering a new monitor and am torn between a new Dell 27inch or Alienware 23inch 3D monitor.
Do 120hz monitors restrict fps to 60?
This will be for gaming only.Are there other pro's and con's I should take into consideration.

If you want 3Dyou need a 120hz monitor. As of today the largest is 24inches.
So the question is how bad do you want 3D? Im waiting till early Q1 when im
sure a 27inch 120hz monitor will be out. another downside to 3D monitors is
that the highest resolution right now is 1080. where a dell 27 inch can go well
above that. Hard decisions right?

Thought about just buying a 3D TV and getting the nVidia software? Playing games in the front room on a 40" TV rules anyway - 40" in 3D is the way to go...!

120hz above 1080P is easy. Just get multiple monitors though the bezel breaks the 3D effect and there isn't any movies above 1080P. Since there is no movies about 1080P, what good would a higher resolution monitor do anyway?

No 120hz monitors don't restrict you to 60FPS. As their name suggests, you can have 120FPS if your system can handle it. Probably need the latest graphics card, like a GTX 580 to get 120FPS @ 1080P. So even if you had a 2560x1440 monitor with 120hz, it would need some serious computer setup to actually run it.

Personally I want a IPS monitor with 120hz or even a good S-PVA would do. I hate TN panels with their crappy colors and terrible viewing angles.
