This is my first build and have had a friend who has built a few computers help me but he recommended I post my build here before buying anything. I have used PC Part picker so I know everything is compatible I just want to know if it is all up to date, future proof or if there is anything I am using that I shouldn't.

Solution
No it is not up to date. That is last gen hardware. PSU is not a quality unit. 120gb is practically useless, beyond OS. RX 480 is releasing next week, for around $200 and performance claims are about that of an R9 390/GTX 970, for only $200. Cryorig H7 is a much better cooler, than the 212, for only a few dollars more. This would be far more up to date. I left the GTX 960 in there, just for pricing. I would recommend waiting, gpu purchase wise, for the RX 480.

Hey logainofhades under Compatibility Notes it says this.
The motherboard M.2 slot #0 shares bandwidth with a SATA Express port. When the M.2 slot is populated, one SATA Express port is disabled.
I don't understand what that means but is it a problem?

That is not a problem at all. Just means that you can use either teh M.2 slot or a sata express port, not both at the same time.
That being said, i encourage you to take a second look at the build i posted: http://videocardz.com/61005/new-amd-radeon-rx-480-3dmark-benchmarks
