Hi, this will be my first pc build and the first time ahead of the curve as have always had low to mid range pre made pc's and first time going the Intel/Nvidia route.

Build Specs: (cpu) i5-6600k, (cooler) Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, (motherboard) Asus Z170-A ATX, (RAM) [brand undecided] DDR4-2400 16 GB, (HDD) Sandisk SSD PLUS 240GB [already got SSD], Seagate Barracuda 1TB, (GPU) MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V, (case) Corsair SPEC-02 ATX, (PSU) EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Fully-Modular.

Price: [U.K.] £900 to £930ish [U.S.] $1360ish

My main goals for this PC is to be a video editing/gaming rig that will be able to speed up render times as well as smash any game on high/ultra at least at 1080p with a high frame rate and for the foreseeable future with a little bit of future proofing to boot i.e. DDR4 compatible etc.

Anyway what I would like is some feedback as although have done my research I am well aware that I'm a noob to all this and would like some opinions or advice on my pc components for said tasks as well as best prices/online stores (am based in the UK), free or cheap benchmarking tools, troubleshooting tips, tools I might not of thought of and good/cheap brands of thermal paste and anything else I might of not thought of.

Also I'm thinking a retail version of windows 10 so it's not tied to the motherboard and can be reused and so on. Thoughts on whether this is a waste of money and should go with OEM? Thanks in advance.

If you are video editing it might be worth it to step up to an i7. But this build will be able to play anything at 1080p at high-ultra for the next couple years. A retail version is worth it if you are planning to update your motherboard every 3-4 years. While 8-12 years from now Windows 10 might not be here it will last you at least one system upgrade.

Thanks for your input, I had considered an i7 but the 6700 wasn't overclockable and the 6700k is about £120 extra and my budgets is kinda maxed out so I'd have to skimp elsewhere so I was just thinking about overclocking the i5 to 4ghz maybe 4.2ghz if stable and not too hot. definitely food for thought on the O.S. as it is unlikely I'd be switching out my motherboard any time soon unless it breaks as I could easily upgrade without needing too so maybe I should reconsider OEM? I heard a rumor that they might be trying to tie OEM to other parts aside from the motherboard in the future is this likely nonsense in your opinion, also do you have any go to benchmarking or troubleshooting tools?

Thanks again for your help it's really appreciated.

P.S. New to this forum so if I'm posting/replying wrong my apologies.
