:Computer Specs:

Processor: i7 6700k
Motherboard: Z170X-Ultra Gaming - Bios F23d
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Series 16GB DDR4-3200 (XMP and running at 3200)
PSU: Fatal1ty Gaming Series 750 Watt 80 Plus Gold Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO M.2 Series 500GB SATA III M.2
Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H100i V2 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Case: EVGA DG-87 ATX Gaming Full-Tower Case
Video Card: ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 ROG Strix 8GB GDDR5X
Monitor: AOC U2879VF 28" FreeSync 4K LED Monitor (Couldn't afford g sync).

I've read that overclocking the graphics card helps better with fps, more so than the cpu.

Would prefer just a safe overclock that I can keep it at 24/7. So if you have a preference on overclocking both cpu and gpu please enlighten me. Programs recommended that could be helpful as well.

My current situation of what I would like to achieve is 55-60 fps in some games I sit consistently at 37-40 in.

Pc is 6 months old and has been overclocked, and entire pc was built brand new.

Download EVGA PrecisionX, you'll need to make a free account for some reason. Then get a GPU stress tester, OCCT is good, or EVGA OCScanner. For your CPU, you do it through the bios, and you'll also stress test through OCCT. 85 I believe is the max temp on your GPU, which it will nicely throttle at. For your CPU, when under heavy load, keep the cores under 85 as well. Don't go above 1.4v, and it would be a very good idea to keep it below 1.37 or so.
Ok 37 to 55 fps is a 49% increase, that is never going to happen. By overclocking your gpu you may get an extra 5-10% or maybe a little more if lucky. At 4k and those fps overclocking your CPU wont bring any gain, you are gpu bound. To get that level of fps increase you need to either turn settings down or upgrade to a 1080Ti or both.

You can get a 20% increase or more if you overclock right/enough. You can't bios mod pascal (probably never will), which is what you need to get said 20%.

I only have discord open on that monitor, no performance loss with it.

I will give this a try and see what type of numbers I can achieve.

If I can't get those types of numbers I should be able to get somewhat close to it, rather it be 5 or even 10 extra frames. I've seen it done I just don't have the overclocking knowledge on how I should go about it.

Just having the monitor connected will cause performance loss. Doesn't matter if programs are running on it.
