Hey guys, I'm new here, sorry if I posted in the wrong forum.

I'm looking to replace my old pc and monitor with something new.
I mainly use my PC for gaming (Battlefield, WoW and PUBG), small simulations and standard school work.
For monitors I have narrowed it down to these two:
1) Asus Rog Swift PG348Q (3440x1440, IPS, 100 Hz)
2) Acer Predator Z35P (3440x1440, VA, 100 Hz)

They are both in same price range, with the only difference being IPS vs VA. Would love to hear if anybody has any experience with any of these monitors!

The spec I've picked to (hopefully) match the monitor resolution is:

GPU: 1070 TI 8G
CPU: i5-8400
Ram: 16gb gaming ram
Motherboard: Asus Prime Z370-P

Now, I ran the GPU and CPU on Bottlenecker and got 2%, so they should go great together?
I have no clue about which motherboard will work well with this spec or how important that is?

So, basically I'd love to hear you guys opinion on this - if you would change something or have experience with similar spec. I'm not aiming for 100 fps on ultra max settings in Battlefield 1, but around steady 80-90 fps on mid/high settings for the mentioned games above.

Cheers! :)

I personally own the Acer Predator X34 (non-P). It's a fantastic panel, though if you're looking to record/stream it can really be a pain due to its aspect ratio. Don't stress over the different panels too much, you'll be getting a fantastic experience either way. How much are you looking to spend on those panels? Personally, I'd much rather upgrade to a really strong PC now and get a good monitor down the line

As far as that board is concerned, I would stay away from it. No point in spending money on a Z370 when you won't be able to OC the 8400. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Thanks for the reply!
How are you enjoying the 3440x1440? I'm able to get it for just under 1000 bucks, which right now is a pretty good price in Scandinavia.
Well, I would consider this a strong PC :D I was looking into upgrading the CPU to i5-8600k. However, I haven't tried OC before and that would require a cooler and the Z370 mobo as well.
What would you recommend or what are you using for your monitor?

For my setup, I'm chugging quite happily along at 100Hz in every title with a 6700k, 16GB of RAM, and a 1080 from EVGA. Depending on the price I would recommend spending the money on the 1080 rather than the 8600k, but both would definitely be great for your build. If you REALLY want to take the plunge, then go for it! Though, if I could do it over again, I'd much rather run a 144hz 1440p panel with a second screen, given I'm streaming/recording. If that is of second concern to you, then you will GREATLY enjoy the ultrawide experience. Ideally, if your budget allows you, the BEST (I mean BEST) rig you could get today would be an i7 8700k with a 1080 Ti, though I'd much rather go for the 1080 Ti vs the 8700k.

My Experience so far:
AWESOME CINEMATIC VALUE; great for movies, casual gaming, content consumption
Has been a bit of an issue in FPS games, as I've been told that 165hz is a good bit better for smooth aim tracking
Most issues have been felt when streaming/recording, as I have to play in a window the entire time.

That sounds awesome! I don't play competitive FPS games anyway, so I doubt I'd need it.
So, the 1080 is almost same price as the 1070 TI, but the 1070 TI is newer - if that makes any difference?
As I understand it, when using a 100 Hz monitor, exceeding 100 fps in games will not make any difference? So, I don't want to overkill my spec reaching a fps that I can't take advantage of, if that makes sense.

The 1070 Ti being newer makes minimal difference; its performance should be between the 1070 and the 1080. This only grows more true, especially if you choose to OC the 1080. By all means, if you can find a 1070 Ti for a fair bit lower than a 1080, then go for it (it can OC to perform close to a 1080). It's just that if you're punching so close to its weight class, you might as well go for the Big Kahuna.

Yea, does make sense. No point saving 20-30 bucks when spending this amount of money anyway :D
Now, I know I'm getting into the details, but he 1080 with the i5-8400 gives a 5% bottlenecking, whereas the 1070 TI only gives 2%. Is 5% still totally acceptable?

I REALLY don't like those types of websites. The only reason the 8400 bottlenecks the 1080 more is because it will push more frames, hence why I was saying that it would be ideal to get an 8600k for optimal performance. Not to mention some of that percentage comes from if you specced in an HDD or not.

Ah okay thanks! I'm gonna think about it over the next couple of days :)
If I were to go with the 8600k, the Asus Prime Z370-P and a simple cooler should be sufficient?
