Advice on system

Hi
I have a Dell T5400 workstation running the following:

Xenon E5420 2.5-Ghz
4GB RAM
Windows Vista Business 32bit SP1

I run Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 this some times hangs when opening files giving out of virtual memory messages.

Woud I see any advantage to upgrading the OS to Windows 7 64bit and increasing RAM to 32Gb (the max the board will take) rather than going down the route of a new PC.

This PC is used only for design work and is networked to a NAS.

Yes upgrading out of crappy O/S Vista would be an improvement as well as pumping the ram up to 32, the later may be costly and harder to find than expected.

DDR2 ram is expensive over 8GB Sticks... expect to spend well over 200-300 for 32GB if not more.

yes windows 7 should be good, I have a Q8200 and it ran fine on it , I made it a win 10 box because it gave me the free upgrade, and seemingly runs the same on either O/S

I was concerned if i jump to 10 i may have driver issues.
