Advice on this build?

Hey guys, I'm putting together my first build and decided on a mATX build. I was recently informed that what I was going to have, (an AMD FX 8350 CPU, a Corsair GS800, and a Promalitech Megahelms) was way too much because the mATX board is apparently crap for overclocking, so I don't need the other high-end components. So my question is, how does this modified build sound?

CPU: AMD FX-6350
CPU Cooler: Be Quiet! Shadow Rock 2
MoBo: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 Micro ATX AM3+
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 8Gb (2x4)
Storage: Corsair Neutron Series 256GB SSD
GPU: Gigabyte Radeon HD 7870
Case: BitFenix Prodigy M (the black one)
PSU: Corsair GS600

This is all $989 compared to the previous price of $1180 or so. Any thoughts?

MATX isnt necessarily bad for overclocking, neither is ITX. You might have to pay more for comparative VRM solutions against a larger board, but its not worse in any way.

That rig looks fine, I would have sunk the money you saved back into a bigger GPU though.
Also you will want more than a 256GB SSD, you will run out of room very quick.

Well would it be more worth it to buy the original components and then overclock? Or buy a better GPU, and then what kinda GPU?

Better GPU, that will have the bigger impact in games then more CPU grunt.
You have saved about $200 on that rig, which means your GPU budget is about $400. Thats either a GTX770 or a 280X, between the two I would go for the 280X unless you have some particular reason to go for Nvidia (Shadowplay, like their game bundle better, Shield).

Any particular reason you go with those instead of a Radeon card?
