Advice on upgrading AMD FX4100

Hi All

I want to work out whether to upgrade my computer or buy a new one. I'd spend max £500 on a new one, but upgrade to £250-£300.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P (Socket M2)
AMD 780G

CPU: AMD 4100 4 Core 3.6ghz

Ram: 16GB DDR3

Graphics: Ati Radeon 3000 512mb rs780

Windows 7 64 bit

1TB hard drive

-------------------------------------

So do you think the motherboard is a decent piece of kit to be upgraded on. I'm not a gamer. I use it for Office, YouTube, Adobe Suite and Visual Studio programming (I won't be fully programming), just a bit or practice.

I've seen elsewhere to go for the FX 6100, but what else is there. For this motherboard can I put in an Intel? I'm willing to spend upto £150 for a decent processor. But don't wanna buy something where its full potential will be restricted by other components.

I know the graphics are standard, I won't ever be playing games but will be using Adobe products like Light room, photoshop and Premiere Pro. The current set up is fine but it does struggle when I'm rendering my video or add too many effects to videos. I'm not sure what kinda upgrade, evertwhere I look it's about gaming.

My Ram is fine. 16gb is highest.

For this motherboard, can I add in a SSD? If not, do they allow adding an external SSD drive and having the system run off that?

I don't mind upgrading to Windows 10, but as Windows 7 is stable, I've been reluctant too.

Overall start up is fast(ish) but you got to give it 5 mins before you do anything. If you start using it as soon as you log on, the whole experience is laggy. If you wait, then things are fast.

I always feel like the full CPU and Ram are not in use, but there's still lag when I'm photoshopping or editing videos.

I did an overclock test last night, it said it will allow to 5ghz. I set it to 4.5ghz, going to trial.

I've also done the basic CCleaner, Start up clean, etc

You would be spending money on old tech that is not better than the build previously suggested to you.

You cannot put an Intel CPU into an AMD board. I would say it is time for a new rig. This would be far better than what you currently have, and have some upgrade capability as well.
