hi I've been a pc gamer for around 3 years or so and have mainly played offline games such as fallout and Skyrim.
I have played more than 100 hours on dayz the mod for arma 2 using a xbox 360 controller and have always done fairly well if not better than my friends using a keyboard and mouse.
I have always had trouble using a keyboard and mouse for gaming and don't seem to react quick enough.
I am going to buy cs go and rainbow six siege and was wondering whether I should invest in a gaming mouse and keyboard rather than the current basic keyboard and mouse I have or use my controller. could someone give me some advice whether I could play cs go and rainbow six siege even if there are some difficulties as long as they are not enough to ruin the experience. also I know a lot of people have a lot of hate for using a controller I'm happy for any input as long as it is helpful

yes i can play rain bow six seige , or any version of rainbow six for the matter better with a controller than with a keyboard and mouse. mainly due to having all short cuts already on the game controler vs having them spread across the keyboard or having to configure them because rainbow six reliays hevily on the Team work rather with bots or with people and those commands that you give come in very handy to have them right at the tip of your fingers.

CSGO you need a mouse and keyboard to stay comptitive PERIOD or it will take the fun out of the game and you will get shoot everytime you walk around the corner vs someone with a mouse and KB. you are simply not quick enough with the controler for CSGO. i tryied and failed and i am an...
I have been gaming on a computer for a long time since the 90s anyway and I myself can never get comfortable with a keyboard and mouse I just recently bought a Titan Fall Strike and the Razor Deathhadder I myself cannot grow custom to a keyboard and mouse while gaming. So to each their own. Another topic but another program so you can use pretty much any controller is x360ce. If you ever run into having another controller that is not compatible. Sorry for the off topic.

for csgo online you WILL need a mouse and keyboard (regular key but at least a gamming mouse from logitech or sowith high dpi)
-the controller is to slow,period.
and you need the key on your keyboard to buy quicker, duck look around coners faster and just in genaral have better control.
competitively on a PC with a controler you wont stand a chance with csgo and an offline mode really isnt in for you (maybe like 3h of gaming)
if you play against bots you stand a chance they are stupid. nothing compared to a real player thow

for rainbow seige
you can keep playing with your controller no problem. actually sorta set up for it cause you already have the commands on the controller vs keyboard they can be a pain to reach or find sometimes.

I think you would have a hard time in CS:GO with a controller. I used to be the same way as you. I grew up as a console gamer and didn't really get into PC gaming until about 4 years ago. Mouse and keyboard always felt more awkward to me than a controller.

I still use my Xbox One controller for the vast majority of the games I play on PC but if you want to be good at a competitive shooter like CS:GO you really need to use a mouse and keyboard. It's a highly competitive, skill based game and the other players will tear you up with a controller.

I am respectable with a mouse and keyboard now even if it still doesn't feel totally natural to me. I used Team Fortress 2 to practice and it really helped. The reason that game is good for learning controls is because you can use the big machine gun guy and not have to make a ton of quick twitch movements. You just get used to walking around the environment with a keyboard and since it's a machine gun you can just hold down mouse button to keep shooting and try to get your aim on the enemy.

It's easier to pick up than a game like CS:GO that requires precision aim and causes you to die with just a couple shots if you mess up. TF2 is much more forgiving and it's free to play.

After I got used to the controls in TF2 for a while I switched over to CS:GO and I have consistently gotten better.

black ops 3 is a port so yes no problem playing that with a controler,

basicly any console port you can play with a controller pretty well ( i have both controler xbox and gaming logitech keyboad and mouse)
csgo was a port from pc to console now if you play on console you can asume the mjoraty is using using a controler too but in cs since version 1.5 it has always been about speed and accuracy im milliseconds time that is wasted on a controler as you try to aim.

if you really want the feel of how it works i would ckeck it out on youtube and get a feel for it were pros have vids of 4-5 heashots in a row and then ask youself if you could do that with a controller. ..

Sorry for the late reply, but, after reading, I felt like I should put in my 2¢.

I was in the same boat as you, and just couldn't get used to kb/m for the longest time. Then I joined the Army, and went to basic training, and AIT (advanced individual training) for my specific job. I had terrible internet, which I had to run off the hotspot on my phone, but I did have a laptop with a GT 630m, a wireless mouse, and a hard copy of Skyrim. When my wife was finally allowed to come and visit, I was able to use the internet at the hotel to download the game. (Yeah, that wasn't happening my phones mobile hotspot.)

Now, at first, I hated using kb/m because I had already been playing the game on an XBox 360, and I was used to a controller. But I kept playing, and actually got very used to it! I still have an XB 360 controller that I keep plugged in to my PC for certain games, but when it comes to playing an fps type of game, there is no comparison. Kb/m wins every time.

My advice is to start out by playing a game that is more immersive, has a good story, and something that doesn't require the amount of accuracy you need to have in a multiplayer fps type of game. That can get very old, very fast, when you are playing against others who are more experienced with a kb/m setup. Do make sure that the game that you choose to start out on has some type of fps functions though. This is the best way to make sure that you get used to the feel of games of that type. As you play, you WILL get better at it. The immersive/story factor was important for me, because I was able to get used to the controls, without the immense tension and fast reaction you NEED for a competitive fps multiplayer game scenario.

I hope you understand that I'm not trying to pressure you to change the way you play. I'm more just trying to help you to broaden your horizons the same way I did. It has made all of the difference to me, and leads to a hell of a lot less frustration when playing a multiplayer fps game on PC. :)
