Hey Everyone,

Just looking for a bit of advice im upgrading my Ryzen 5 to A Ryzen 7 1800x and need a better cooling sysyem.

Here is what im running currently :

AMD ryzen 5 4500 @ 3.9 ghz

Super Fast game turbo white rgb 40gb ram

Gamemax rgb liquid cooling system

Dual graphics 2x Asus strix GTX 960 2gb gpu

Aorus B450 elite gaming motherboard

512gb SSD128gb SSD128gb SSD M.21tb

HDDTp link wireless wifi card

700watt psu power supply Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

Usb ports 3.0 and 2.0

If you could advice me on the best cooling system to buy for the upgrade that would be great thanks in advance

If you have even a 120mm AIO that is enough for operation of any AM5 CPU. They self regulate.

You only need a better cooler if you want the absolute best the CPU can deliver.
Not all AM5 Ryzen, 5800x and up need much better coolers. Yes they "self regulate" but by limiting boost and even throttling if temps go over 90-95c and so lowering performance. That's why those come without a cooler. Besides that, 120mm AIOs are not better and can be even worse than good 120-140mm air coolers.

I agree I shouldn't have said ANY AM5 CPU, though it would still work. Just saying that if you can already cool a 1800X, then a 5700X should be little trouble and no need to spend the extra money.

Since you have had your aio for a while, it is probably nearing the failure point(think 5 years) and should be replaced.
Yes, the R7-1800X is no upgrade at all.

Here is the cpu support list for your motherboard:
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B450-AORUS-ELITE-rev-1x/support#support-cpu

Noctua maintains a list of suitable air coolers for different processors.
For example, here is the list for a 5600X:
https://ncc.noctua.at/cpus/model/AMD-Ryzen-5-5600X-1047

A simple 120mm tower like the NH-U12S is suitable.

Rather expensive cooler. Granted you pretty much only ever have to buy the one. But not sure about the chassis dimensions so there is potential that one might be too tall.

I would play it more safe with something like:

or

If there is room for a 120mm cooler, then:

A 5800x doesn't need as much as people claim. I ran mine on a cheap Vetroo V5 without issue.

Well, I run my 5800x under a 360 AIO and it was a fight to keep it at about 80c and get full performance out of it. Had to use every trick in the book to achieve it.

If you mean the advertised clocks, you almost never see those out of the box without some tweaks. With good cooling and PBO on you might see 100Mhz over stock max boost, but as near as I can tell most people will hover around 50-75Mhz under the listed boost frequency while gaming. At least from all the times people complained about it when they were new.

I want to get my money's worth and I got even a bit more than advertised frequencies. For 100MHz or so less, 5700x would be better and cheaper fit as it is much easier to cool with it's 65W TDP. .
