Hello,

These are my current specs (built back in Aug. 2007)

-AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2.2 GHZ)
-3gb PC2 6400 RAM
-ATI Radeon x1950 Pro 256mb
-BIOSTAR NF520-A2 AM2 NVIDIA nForce 520 MCP Motherboard

My x1950 Pro graphics card is cross-fire capable. Would it be worth the expense to do this? Or would running dual x1950 Pro's still not be that great in comparision to today's cards?

And here is the link to which CPU's my motherboard supports:

The purpose of my upgrading would be to improve gaming performance basically. Currently I just play Left 4 Dead.

What upgrading would get me the most bang for my buck? I'm looking to do it as cheap as possible.

Thanks for your advice! :)

Do you think I should bother upgrading the CPU? Or is there much more to be gained in the graphics department? I will also look into those cards.

Your motherboard is not Crossfire capable, it doesn't even have a second PCI-E x16 slot. Also, a single HD 4870 card would be way faster than two x1950 Pro cards together in Crossfire. You don't need a CPU upgrade yet IMO, just a new GPU.
